She's the editor of Vogue, and this is one of her Long Island homes. But that's not what's important. I chose these two images because I think they are gorgeous examples of tonality. That is to say using a palette of a single color, and only varying more or less within different shades of that color. Or, by utilizing different textures and materials of a similar color range. In combination with light, it creates a soft, very comfortable aura. One where elements seem to melt into one another. As opposed to areas of sharp contrast which are defining and edgy. In the top image, I particularly love the way the blue painting above the fireplace pops against this soft atmosphere. It's powerful. In the bottom, the presence of strong light creates a sense of confusion as to being inside or out. The intense tonal quality of the space even blurs the definition of the room boundaries and the definition of the walls. Really gorgeous.
